What an honour it is to be the President of City of Armagh RFC for the 2019-2020 season and It is with great pride and delight that I take up this privileged post. Over the years we
have had some remarkable people, including my late father, Jim Scott,
(President 1991-1992), carry out this role with the utmost dignity and integrity. Hopefully this year I can do the same and I take my hat off to all our past presidents.
As a club, last season was a great success both on and off the field, with the 1st XV retaining the Senior Cup, reaching the Bateman Cup Final and securing their place in AIL 1B. The 2nd XV won both their leagues, while the 3rd & 4th XVs fulfilled all their fixtures, having recorded some great results along the way.
The Mini and Youth sections continue to flourish and as we all know, this is the life blood of our club. The under 14’s won their league and were unbeaten in 16 games. The under 16’s achieved the double, winning all 14 league games and claiming the Ulster Carpets Cup at the Kingspan Stadium. Our under 18’s finished runners up in the league and won the Nutty Krust tournament for the third year in a row.
Our girls rugby section continues to grow, with all age groups competing in a combined total of 208 games last season and several of the girls received representative honours. Our under 12’s did us proud when they represented our club at the Aviva Stadium in May,
- the future looks very bright.
Off the field, we received full planning permission for our new clubhouse and organised a tremendous fundraising event at the Palace Demesne, which was attended by over 300 people, generating vital funds for our development plans. We will continue to fundraise so that we can bring to fruition, a state-of-the-art facility that current and future generations can enjoy.
City of Armagh Rugby Club has a wide group of volunteers and sponsors, along with a ladies committee that is second to none – this is what the club is built on and without them we would have nothing.
I wish our coaches, team managers, physios, volunteers and supporters, along with all our players, who put their bodies on the line week in and week out whilst wearing the Red & Black, a memorable, enjoyable and successful season with City of Armagh RFC.
Yours in Rugby,
President - City of Armagh Rugby Club
